Columbia, SC – A wind advisory remains in effect across central South Carolina today, with gusts reaching up to 40 mph. Residents along major roadways like I-20 and I-26 are urged to drive with caution as winds may blow debris into the streets and make high-profile vehicles difficult to control.
According to the National Weather Service, the advisory lasts until 7 p.m. Strong winds from a passing cold front will bring light rain during the morning, clearing by the afternoon as colder, drier air arrives. By tonight, temperatures will plummet into the 20s, increasing the risk of icy conditions in some areas.
The strongest winds are expected in the southern Midlands and near the Augusta area, where occasional gusts could exceed 45 mph. Residents are advised to secure loose outdoor objects and prepare for potential power outages.
Tuesday’s weather will bring clearer skies but colder temperatures, with a high of 46°F and northwest winds around 10 mph. Overnight, temperatures will dip to 24°F under calm and clear conditions. Wednesday and Thursday are expected to stay sunny with highs in the mid-40s.
Motorists are urged to stay alert for sudden gusts and to avoid parking near trees or power lines. For updated forecasts and safety tips, visit weather.gov.
