Amarillo, TX – Severe storms in the northeast Texas Panhandle brought gusty winds and hail early Wednesday. Wind gusts reached up to 50 mph with hail reported as large as a penny in some areas. The storms moved eastward, hitting towns such as Perryton and Beaver.
According to the National Weather Service in Amarillo, the storm system began weakening around 3:30 a.m. and is expected to dissipate by sunrise. Residents in the storm’s path experienced intense gusts and localized damage from the hail. The NWS advised people to remain cautious of gusty winds and potential flash flooding in low-lying areas.
Despite the severity of the weather, conditions are expected to improve later in the day, with clear skies returning. Temperatures in Amarillo are forecasted to reach the low 90s with sunny conditions by Thursday. The Texas Panhandle will see calmer weather for the rest of the week, with only a slight chance of rain on Saturday.
