Wichita, Kansas – Thunderstorms are expected to roll into south-central Kansas by Wednesday evening, bringing rain and a brief cool-down before warmer, sunnier skies return Friday.

According to the National Weather Service in Wichita, spotty showers may develop Tuesday across areas like Hutchinson and Emporia, but more organized rainfall and embedded thunderstorms are likely to overspread the region from late Wednesday through early Thursday morning. Overnight lows will dip into the low 50s during this stretch.

Cities including Wichita, Salina, and Coffeyville could see 0.25 to 0.5 inches of rainfall, with some localized heavier amounts possible. While widespread severe weather is not anticipated, residents are urged to monitor for lightning and reduced visibility on roads during the Wednesday PM commute. Highs will stay below seasonal averages through Thursday, ranging from the upper 60s to mid-70s.

Drivers are advised to slow down during periods of heavy rain and to avoid flooded low-water crossings. Keep phones charged and stay weather-aware overnight into Thursday morning.

Conditions are expected to improve Friday, with sunshine and highs rebounding into the upper 70s and low 80s across most of Kansas. Additional updates may be issued as the storm system develops.
