State College, Pa. – Residents across central Pennsylvania should brace for thunderstorms and showers beginning Tuesday afternoon, with rain chances continuing through midweek.

According to the National Weather Service in State College, showers and thunderstorms could begin developing after 2 p.m. Tuesday, especially as temperatures climb to an unseasonably warm 81°F. Winds will shift from light south breezes to stronger gusts up to 21 mph by evening, with a 40% chance of rain.

Localized impacts could affect driving on U.S. Route 322, Interstate 99, and key streets in downtown State College late Tuesday. Lightning and brief downpours may also impact outdoor events at Penn State University. Tuesday night’s storms are expected to transition into scattered showers by early Wednesday, with overnight lows around 56°F.

Residents are urged to secure outdoor items, monitor local alerts, and limit non-essential travel during stormy periods. Flash flooding is unlikely but cannot be ruled out in isolated heavier cells.

Partly sunny skies are expected to return by Wednesday afternoon, but another round of showers could move in by Wednesday night, keeping conditions unsettled into Thursday morning.
