St. Louis, Missouri – A dangerous line of severe thunderstorms will race across Missouri Monday evening, bringing threats of tornadoes, large hail, and flash flooding through 3 a.m. Tuesday.
According to the National Weather Service in St. Louis, the most intense storms are expected between 6 and 9 p.m. across western and central Missouri, including Columbia and Jefferson City, before pushing eastward into areas like St. Louis between 9 p.m. and midnight. Southeast Missouri and southern Illinois, including Cape Girardeau and Carbondale, face the highest risk of flash flooding due to repeated storms.
All severe weather hazards are possible—damaging winds exceeding 60 mph, isolated tornadoes, and hail up to the size of golf balls. The NWS has issued a Level 3 out of 5 severe weather risk for much of the region, urging residents to have multiple ways to receive overnight warnings.
Drivers should avoid travel during peak storm hours and be alert for flooded roads, especially in low-lying areas. Power outages and tree damage are also possible as storms sweep through.
The threat is expected to weaken after 3 a.m., but additional alerts may be issued if conditions persist. Stay tuned to local weather updates and have emergency plans ready.
