Detroit, MI – A turbulent start to the week is in store for southeast Michigan, as spring storms take aim at Metro Detroit beginning Monday evening.

According to the National Weather Service in Detroit/Pontiac, a line of thunderstorms is expected to move west to east across the region between 6 p.m. and 11 p.m. Monday. The system brings a Slight Risk for severe weather across Detroit, Wayne County, and surrounding communities, with threats including damaging wind gusts up to 40 mph, large hail, and isolated tornadoes. Residents are urged to avoid unnecessary travel Monday evening, especially along I-94, which may experience visibility issues and slick roads during the storm window.

Spotter activation may be needed, and emergency managers recommend securing outdoor items, staying indoors during severe weather, and monitoring alerts through Tuesday morning.

The active pattern continues midweek. Another low-pressure system will push through Wednesday, bringing another round of strong thunderstorms and soaking rain. Flooding in low-lying areas and along drainage routes is possible by Wednesday evening.
