St. Paul, MN – A powerful spring storm is bringing hazardous weather to parts of western and central Minnesota today and into Wednesday morning. A Winter Storm Warning is in effect for several counties, with snow, sleet, and freezing rain making travel treacherous.

According to the National Weather Service, the storm will bring heavy snow to areas including Douglas, Todd, and Kanabec counties. Snowfall accumulations are expected to range from 5 to 7 inches, with the possibility of higher totals in some regions. Late tonight, sleet and freezing rain will mix with the snow, creating a dangerous combination that could make roads slick. This storm is expected to last through Wednesday morning.

A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for other areas, including Stearns, Polk, and Chisago counties, where snow totals of 2 to 4 inches are anticipated. Conditions are expected to worsen during the evening and overnight, with the potential for hazardous commutes.

Travelers are urged to exercise caution. If you must be on the roads, make sure to carry emergency supplies, including food, water, and a flashlight. For up-to-date road conditions, visit 511mn.org.
