Pittsburgh, PA – Southwestern Pennsylvania is under a winter storm warning, with heavy snow and gusty winds expected through Friday morning.

The National Weather Service (NWS) issued the warning, which remains in effect until 7 a.m. Friday. Snow accumulations are predicted to range from 4 to 10 inches, with the highest totals in ridge areas such as Ligonier and Ohiopyle. Wind gusts could reach speeds of 35 mph, creating hazardous travel conditions, particularly during Thursday’s morning and evening commutes.

According to the NWS, the warning extends to portions of northern West Virginia, including Preston and Tucker counties. Significant snowfall is likely in areas such as Kingwood, Terra Alta, and Canaan Valley. The storm is expected to intensify early Thursday, with snowfall continuing throughout the day and tapering off by early Friday.

Authorities warn that roadways could become treacherous due to snow accumulation and reduced visibility from blowing snow. Drivers are urged to reduce speed and increase following distances. Those in the region should plan for delays and avoid unnecessary travel if possible.

Residents are encouraged to report snow or ice accumulations to the NWS by calling 412-262-1988 or using social media platforms like Twitter (@NWSPittsburgh). Officials also recommend preparing for potential power outages caused by gusty winds and heavy snow weighing down power lines.
