Pittsburgh, PA – The National Weather Service (NWS) confirmed six tornadoes touched down in Southwest Pennsylvania on June 26, causing extensive damage across several counties.
According to NWS Pittsburgh, the tornadoes ranged from EF0 to EF2, affecting areas including Mt. Morris, North Fayette, and multiple locations in Westmoreland County. The strongest tornado, an EF2, reached peak winds of 115 mph and traveled nearly 11 miles in Westmoreland County, damaging trees, roofs, and utility poles.
The first tornado, rated EF0, hit Mt. Morris with winds of 80 mph, snapping trees and causing minor roof damage along Dairy Farm Road. The second tornado, an EF1, struck North Fayette, traveling 6.96 miles with 90 mph winds, primarily damaging trees and causing minor structural damage near Oakdale.
In Westmoreland County, two EF1 tornadoes were confirmed. The first traveled 10.62 miles, causing significant tree damage and minor roof damage in the Wilmerding and Trafford areas. The second EF1 tornado began in Monroeville, causing tree and fence damage along its 2.64-mile path.
Another EF0 tornado was confirmed in Blairsville, with winds of 75 mph, causing minor tree damage along a 0.34-mile path.
No fatalities or injuries were reported from these tornadoes. The NWS praised local emergency services and volunteers for their assistance in damage assessment efforts. The final survey marks a total of 29 tornadoes in the region for the year.
