Wilmington, Ohio – Renewed flooding concerns are expected across southwest Ohio this evening and overnight as additional rounds of showers and thunderstorms move through the region.
According to the National Weather Service in Wilmington, multiple waves of rainfall between Wednesday evening and 7 p.m. Friday could produce widespread totals between 1 and 1.5 inches, with locally higher amounts possible.
Forecasters warn that quick runoff, ponding on roadways, high water and localized flash flooding are the primary concerns. Some storms may produce periods of heavy rainfall, increasing the risk in low-lying and poor-drainage areas.
Communities including Cincinnati, Dayton, Wilmington and surrounding counties are within the area of concern, based on forecast maps released Wednesday afternoon.
Officials urge drivers to use caution overnight, particularly in areas prone to water over roadways. The agency emphasized the “Turn Around, Don’t Drown” safety message and asked residents to report flooding when it is safe to do so.
The heaviest rainfall is expected at times tonight, with additional showers continuing into Thursday and Friday.
Commuters Thursday morning and Friday evening could encounter water-covered roads if heavier bands persist.
Additional updates will be issued as conditions evolve.
