Springfield, Missouri – Strong storms and up to 3 inches of rain will drench southwest Missouri through Wednesday night, raising flash flood risks across the Ozarks and along the I-44 corridor.

According to the National Weather Service in Springfield, a Flood Watch remains in effect until 7 a.m. Thursday for counties including Greene, Christian, Webster, and Taney. Repeated thunderstorms will bring torrential downpours, with localized flooding possible in low-lying areas, creeks, and urban streets. Some storms may also produce damaging winds and hail Tuesday night into Wednesday.

Wednesday will bring the most widespread impact, with a 100% chance of showers and possible thunderstorms throughout the day and into the night. High winds up to 22 mph and intense rainfall could create hazardous travel, particularly during the afternoon and evening commute. Residents are urged to avoid flood-prone roads and monitor real-time alerts.

By Thursday, showers taper off but may linger into early afternoon. Friday and the weekend bring a welcome change, with sunny skies and highs near 70 expected Friday and into the low 70s Saturday and Sunday.

Springfield 5-Day Outlook:

  • Wednesday: Thunderstorms, heavy rain. High 74°F. Flooding possible.
  • Thursday: Showers early, partly cloudy late. High 72°F.
  • Friday: Mostly sunny. High near 70°F.
  • Saturday: Sunny, warmer. High 74°F.
  • Sunday: Sunny and dry. High 76°F.
