Grand Rapids, MI – Snow showers are expected to blanket southwest Michigan starting Thursday, creating hazardous travel conditions on major roadways, including US 131 and I-94. Drivers should plan for slick roads and reduced visibility as light accumulations and gusty winds create challenges for commuters.

According to the National Weather Service, snow showers are likely Thursday with high temperatures near 27°F and wind gusts reaching 20 mph. The snowfall will continue through Friday, with a 40% chance of snow showers in the evening. Roads may become especially treacherous along key travel corridors west of US 131.

Saturday will bring some relief, with mostly cloudy skies and temperatures around 24°F, though icy conditions may persist. By Sunday, another round of snow showers is expected, with highs near 26°F. Residents are urged to check forecasts regularly as weather patterns could change.

Those traveling for the first weekend of the new year are advised to pack emergency kits, allow extra time for trips, and stay updated on road conditions. Hazardous travel is especially likely during evening hours when temperatures drop and ice forms quickly.

Beyond the weekend, colder air will dominate the region into Monday and Tuesday, with highs barely reaching the upper 20s. Snow showers will remain a possibility, keeping roadways slick and requiring continued caution for drivers and pedestrians alike.
