Lake Charles, LA – Residents of Southwest Louisiana are being urged to prepare for an Arctic cold front expected to push through the region early next week, bringing freezing temperatures and biting winds. The National Weather Service (NWS) predicts the coldest air of the season will settle across the Gulf Coast, beginning Monday.

According to the NWS, the Arctic air mass will drop temperatures significantly below normal, with highs struggling to reach 40°F and nighttime lows dipping into the 20s. The frigid conditions could pose hazards to exposed pipes, crops, and livestock, and residents should plan now to insulate vulnerable areas and ensure access to warm shelter.

By Wednesday, Lake Charles is forecast to see highs near 53°F with a chance of rain late in the day, followed by cloudy conditions overnight as temperatures drop into the 40s. Subfreezing wind chills are possible as the front strengthens into Thursday and Friday, with an 84% chance of below-normal temperatures dominating the region.

The weekend outlook includes daytime highs barely approaching 50°F and nighttime lows plummeting into the 20s. Officials are warning of frost and potential wind chill hazards for outdoor workers, drivers along the I-10 corridor, and those without sufficient heating.
