Dodge City, Kan. – Scattered thunderstorms capable of producing 1- to 2-inch hail and 60 mph wind gusts are expected across southwest Kansas this afternoon, with the highest risk between 3 and 7 p.m.
According to the National Weather Service in Dodge City, storm coverage will remain limited—estimated at 5 to 15%—but any storms that do develop could quickly turn severe. Isolated tornadoes are also possible, particularly in counties along the Oklahoma border.
Cities including Dodge City, Greensburg, and Ashland sit squarely within the elevated risk zone. U.S. Highways 283 and 160 may see rapid changes in driving conditions. Residents in Pratt, Liberal, and Medicine Lodge should remain alert for changing weather and be prepared to take shelter if warnings are issued.
Large hail is expected to be the most widespread hazard. Outdoor activities should be rescheduled, and vehicles moved under cover. Residents are also urged to secure loose outdoor items and avoid unnecessary travel during peak storm hours.
While the severe weather threat is short-lived, more updates may follow if storm development increases. Stay tuned to NOAA Weather Radio or local alerts through the evening.
