Madison, Wis. – Wind gusts topping 45 mph and more than an inch of rain are hammering southern Wisconsin Tuesday, creating slick roads, minor river rises, and localized ponding, especially south of I-90 and I-94.
According to the National Weather Service in Milwaukee/Sullivan, the heaviest rainfall is expected through early afternoon, with widespread totals near or above 1 inch across Janesville, Monroe, and the Milwaukee metro. Areas northeast of the I-94 corridor will see lighter totals as rain arrives later. A few embedded thunderstorms may bring brief downpours.
Gusty east-northeast winds between 30 and 40 mph are also sweeping across the region, peaking mid-morning through 2 p.m. Cities like Fond du Lac, Waukesha, and West Bend may experience sporadic gusts up to 45 mph. Power outages and tree debris are possible.
Drivers should watch for ponding on roads, especially in low-lying areas. Residents are urged to secure loose outdoor items, charge electronics, and limit unnecessary travel until conditions improve later this evening.
This marks one of the wettest days this month for southern Wisconsin. Gusty winds and rainfall are expected to taper off gradually after 7 p.m., but updates will continue throughout the day as conditions evolve.
