Milwaukee, Wisconsin – Southern Wisconsin is preparing for a period of extreme heat this weekend, with dangerous heat index values expected to reach between 100 and 105 degrees from Saturday through Monday. Residents should take precautions against heat-related illnesses and stay hydrated.

According to the National Weather Service in Milwaukee/Sullivan, high temperatures will climb into the low to upper 90s, with the heat index making it feel significantly hotter. The most impactful extreme heat is anticipated in southeast Wisconsin.

Cities like Madison, Janesville, Kenosha, and Milwaukee are all under an elevated heat risk. Specific heat index values for Saturday and Sunday show Madison hitting 103°F and 102°F respectively, Janesville reaching 104°F and 102°F, and Milwaukee topping out at 105°F on Saturday. Residents should limit outdoor activities, especially during peak afternoon hours, and check on vulnerable neighbors, the elderly, and those without air conditioning. Community cooling centers, libraries, and malls may offer relief.

To reduce indoor temperatures, cover windows with drapes or shades. This prolonged heat event marks the first significant heatwave of the season for many areas. The National Weather Service advises staying off the roads for non-essential travel if possible and having fully charged devices.

Warnings remain in effect through Monday, with a slight decrease in heat expected by Tuesday. Additional advisories or alerts could follow if conditions worsen.
