Charleston, WV – A significant snowstorm continues to impact portions of West Virginia, with heavy snowfall and hazardous travel conditions expected through Saturday.

The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a Winter Storm Warning, effective until 4 p.m. for Boone, Logan, McDowell, Mingo, and Wyoming Counties. According to the NWS, an additional two inches of snow could accumulate in these areas by this afternoon, exacerbating already slippery road conditions.

Southeast West Virginia, including Raleigh, Fayette, and Nicholas Counties, will remain under the warning until 7 p.m. Forecasters predict an additional one to three inches of snow in these regions. The storm is also impacting parts of southwestern Virginia, including Buchanan and Dickenson Counties, where up to one inch of additional snow is expected before the warning expires at 1 p.m.

Residents are urged to avoid non-essential travel due to icy roads and low visibility. If travel is necessary, authorities recommend carrying an emergency kit, including a flashlight, food, and water. Road condition updates are available by dialing 511 or visiting online traffic portals.

The storm has disrupted daily activities across the region, with schools and businesses closing in affected areas. Power outages remain a concern as snow accumulates on power lines and tree branches. Emergency crews are on standby to respond to outages and road incidents.
