Memphis, TN – A multi-state severe weather threat is taking shape across the Southern U.S. this Sunday, with parts of Tennessee, Mississippi and Alabama at risk for tornadoes, damaging winds and large hail.

According to the National Weather Service in Memphis, a slight risk area—indicating a 15% or greater chance of severe weather—extends from Shreveport through Memphis and into central Kentucky. The storms are expected to be scattered but could include isolated intense cells capable of producing tornadoes.

Primary threats include wind gusts exceeding 60 mph, quarter-size or larger hail, and a few tornadoes, particularly in areas where instability increases by Sunday afternoon. The severe weather outlook is valid from early Sunday, March 30, through 7 a.m. Monday, March 31.

Residents in Memphis, Birmingham, Jackson and surrounding areas are urged to monitor forecasts closely, have multiple alert methods in place, and plan for shelter if warnings are issued. While confidence in storm development is currently rated as medium, forecasters stress that early signals suggest the need for heightened awareness.

This setup follows a pattern of springtime severe events in the region, and officials recommend reviewing tornado safety protocols ahead of the weekend.
