Binghamton, N.Y. – Much of central and southern New York will stay dry through Tuesday afternoon, but clouds are thickening ahead of a rain system expected to return by early Wednesday.

According to the National Weather Service in Binghamton, temperatures hovered in the low to mid-70s Tuesday afternoon, with highs of 72°F in Utica, 70°F in Elmira, and 69°F in Montrose. While conditions remain rain-free for now, scattered showers are set to move back in across the Southern Tier and Mohawk Valley by mid-morning Wednesday.

Cities including Binghamton, Oneonta, and Norwich should expect a damp and cooler start to Wednesday, with light rain making roads slick during the morning commute. Motorists are advised to use caution, especially on rural and elevated roadways where visibility may quickly drop in heavier bands.

Although no major flooding is anticipated, minor ponding is possible in low-lying areas. Residents should prepare for a slower commute and keep umbrellas handy.

The rain pattern is expected to persist through much of Wednesday before tapering into the evening. Additional updates or advisories may be issued by the NWS as the system progresses.
