Horseheads, NY – Deputies seized 47 firearms from a Horseheads home late Sunday night following a domestic incident that led to multiple charges, including a felony weapons offense.
According to the Chemung County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded around 11:52 p.m. Sunday to a domestic dispute in the Town of Horseheads. The investigation resulted in the arrest of 37-year-old Ryken G. Ruuspakka, who faces charges including criminal possession of a weapon in the third degree, along with several misdemeanors.
Authorities say the charges also include assault in the third degree, endangering the welfare of a child, obstructing governmental administration, and criminal mischief. During the response, deputies removed a total of 47 firearms from the residence under New York domestic violence laws, including six weapons that were not compliant with state regulations and multiple high-capacity magazines.
The Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division assisted with the case, leading to the additional felony weapons charge tied to the non-compliant firearms.
Ruuspakka was arraigned in Horseheads Town Court and remanded to the Chemung County Jail without bail. He is scheduled to appear in court at a later date as the investigation continues.
