Medford, Oregon – Medford is gearing up for sweltering temperatures this week, with highs nearing 97°F by Friday and no rain relief in sight through the weekend.

According to the National Weather Service in Medford, clear skies and calm conditions overnight will give way to sunny, hot days beginning Wednesday, when the high will reach 90°F. The hottest day is forecast for Friday, with temperatures pushing 97°F, raising concerns about fire danger across Jackson County and surrounding areas.

Northwest winds up to 11 mph in the afternoons will dry out already parched vegetation, especially near Central Point and Eagle Point. Residents should avoid outdoor burning and stay hydrated. Utility usage may spike as homes and businesses rely on air conditioning to cope with the heat.

The stretch of sunny weather will continue into Saturday, with another 90°F day expected before a slight cooldown begins Sunday. Temperatures are expected to dip into the high 70s by the end of the weekend, though no significant rainfall is expected until at least Tuesday.

More updates will follow if fire weather watches or heat advisories are issued later this week.
