Medford, OR – Weather conditions will calm across southwest Oregon heading into the weekend, with morning showers west of the Cascades Friday dissipating by afternoon. According to the National Weather Service Medford office, mild and quiet weather is expected through Saturday before a more impactful cold front arrives late Sunday into Monday.

Forecasters say the cold front will reach the Oregon coast by late Sunday morning, spreading inland through the afternoon and Monday. Snow levels are forecast to drop to between 4,000 and 5,000 feet on Monday, bringing accumulating mountain snow to Cascade passes and higher-elevation roadways.

Cascade passes, along with Sawyers Bar Road west of Etna, could see 2 to 4 inches of snowfall through the day Monday. The Weather Service advises drivers to use extreme caution, as falling snow and colder air behind the front may create slick or hazardous travel conditions.

Temperatures behind the front will drop significantly. Overnight lows Monday night into Tuesday may fall into the high teens and low 20s across the Cascades, and into the mid- to upper-30s for many west-side valleys. Forecasters note that these colder temperatures could pose risks to vulnerable plants, pets, and exposed infrastructure.

The weather remains quiet through most of Saturday before conditions begin to deteriorate Sunday as the front approaches.
