Cincinnati, Ohio – Gusty winds and pockets of heavy rain could hit parts of southern Ohio and northern Kentucky this afternoon, with the greatest storm threat focused along the Ohio River.

According to the National Weather Service in Wilmington, a Marginal Risk (Level 1 of 5) for severe thunderstorms remains in place through Friday evening, mainly for cities such as Maysville, Portsmouth, and Owensville. These storms may bring wind gusts strong enough to down branches or cause localized power outages. All counties across the region are also under a Marginal Risk for excessive rainfall, increasing concerns for minor flash flooding.

Localized downpours could lead to water pooling on roadways, especially in low-lying areas and near small creeks. Drivers along I-275 and U.S. 52 should use caution during evening commutes.

Residents in the Cincinnati metro and surrounding counties are urged to secure outdoor items, stay weather-aware, and avoid flooded roads. The risk is part of a broader unsettled pattern expected to linger into the weekend, bringing continued storm chances.

Another update is expected later today as storms develop and move northeast. Additional alerts may be issued if conditions intensify.
