Southern North Carolina – 3:00 a.m. Friday – A tornado watch remains in effect for southern North Carolina early Friday morning as Hurricane Helene’s outer bands bring severe thunderstorms. The watch, issued by the National Weather Service, will remain active until 8:00 a.m., with several tornadoes still possible before daybreak.
According to the NWS, areas around Fayetteville and other southern parts of the state are facing strong winds and thunderstorms, with tornado activity still a threat. Winds are currently reaching 60 knots in some areas, making conditions hazardous.
Residents should stay indoors, monitor weather updates, and be prepared to take shelter if a tornado warning is issued. The watch also extends into South Carolina and central Georgia, where similar threats from Helene’s outer bands continue.
