Des Moines, Iowa – Off-and-on showers will dampen Memorial Day plans across southern and central Iowa as rain chances persist through Monday evening.

According to the National Weather Service in Des Moines, rain will begin tonight across central and southern counties, continuing intermittently through the holiday—especially in the south. Temperatures will remain unseasonably cool, with daytime highs in the 60s for most of the state. Northern Iowa could see a few spots approach 70 degrees.

Sunday and Monday are expected to bring the greatest impacts south of Interstate 80, where wet roads could hinder travel and outdoor events. Cities including Ottumwa, Osceola, and Lamoni should prepare for damp conditions, while areas like Mason City and Decorah may stay mostly dry.

Low temperatures each night will fall into the upper 40s and low 50s. Residents are encouraged to monitor local alerts, especially if traveling or planning outdoor gatherings. Light rain and cooler weather could impact Memorial Day parades and observances.

Conditions are expected to gradually improve by Tuesday, though additional advisories may be issued if rain lingers.
