Louisville, Ky. – Damaging winds and hail could impact evening travel across southern Indiana and central Kentucky Thursday, as strong to severe thunderstorms develop along the I-65 corridor.
According to the National Weather Service in Louisville, a Slight Risk (Level 2 of 5) has been issued from noon to 8 p.m. EDT for a wide swath including Louisville, Elizabethtown, and Bowling Green. Scattered storms may intensify quickly, producing gusts strong enough to topple tents, snap limbs, or cause minor structural damage. Hail is also a key concern, particularly during peak heating hours this afternoon.
Cities such as Jeffersonville, Shepherdsville, and Campbellsville could experience brief but intense downpours, while lightning poses an additional threat to outdoor activities and sporting events. Interstate 65 travelers should be alert for reduced visibility and slick roads, especially during the evening commute.
Residents are advised to secure loose outdoor items and stay weather-aware throughout the day. NOAA Weather Radios and smartphone alerts are encouraged, as storms may develop with little warning.
Thunderstorm chances taper off later tonight, but additional advisories are possible if storm activity lingers or intensifies. Stay tuned for local updates.
