Paducah, Kentucky – A wave of strong storms may hit parts of western Kentucky and southeast Missouri Thursday afternoon, bringing the risk of isolated damaging winds, heavy rain, and lightning into early Friday.

According to the National Weather Service in Paducah, a strong upper-level disturbance will move across the Quad State region, triggering widespread showers and scattered thunderstorms—mainly Thursday afternoon and evening. Rain totals between 0.5 to 1 inch are expected across cities like Paducah, Cape Girardeau, Poplar Bluff, and Evansville.

Communities east of the Mississippi, including Marion, Owensboro, and Madisonville, may see stronger activity Friday morning, especially if the system lingers. While severe weather isn’t guaranteed, a few storms could briefly turn strong with gusty winds and downpours. Motorists should stay alert on I-24, I-55, and US 60 due to reduced visibility and wet roads.

Residents should secure outdoor items, charge electronics ahead of possible outages, and monitor alerts for any storm upgrades. This marks the most widespread rainfall in the region since early May.

Scattered storms could continue into early Friday, with conditions improving by the afternoon. More advisories may be issued as the system evolves.
