Pueblo, Colorado – Temperatures across southern and eastern Colorado are surging into the 90s this week, with La Junta and Lamar expected to see highs near 96°F by Friday—well above seasonal averages—as isolated thunderstorms continue to threaten mountain and foothill areas through the weekend.
According to the National Weather Service in Pueblo, highs on Tuesday will climb into the upper 80s and low 90s for cities along I-25 and Highway 50, including Pueblo (88°F), Canon City (87°F), and Ordway (90°F). Further east, Lamar and Las Animas could spike to 93°F, while cooler conditions and storm activity are expected in the mountains, where places like Leadville and Creede remain in the 50s and 60s.
Afternoon thunderstorms are most likely west of I-25, especially near Salida, Saguache, and Wolf Creek Pass, where lightning and brief heavy rain are possible. Drivers should be cautious on mountain roads due to reduced visibility and slick conditions.
With highs forecast to remain well above 90°F through Saturday in areas like La Junta and Springfield, residents are urged to limit outdoor activity during peak heat, hydrate regularly, and check on vulnerable individuals and pets.
More storm chances persist daily, with temperatures remaining elevated through Sunday. Additional advisories may be issued.
