Colorado Springs, Colo. – Residents across eastern Colorado should brace for dangerous thunderstorms today, with the highest risk for severe weather expected between 3 p.m. and 8 p.m., especially along the plains.

According to the National Weather Service in Pueblo, storms could bring damaging wind gusts up to 70 mph, hail as large as 2 inches, torrential rain, and the potential for isolated tornadoes. Areas at greatest risk include Pueblo, Lamar, La Junta, and Colorado Springs, where afternoon storms may rapidly intensify.

High winds could down trees and power lines, while hail and flash flooding threaten local roads, especially in low-lying and poor-drainage areas. I-25 and US-50 corridors may see delays due to storm activity. Drivers should avoid travel during peak storm hours and secure outdoor objects now.

Storms are expected to persist into Thursday, with additional rain and lightning likely across southern Colorado. Wet conditions may last through early next week, particularly near the Continental Divide, with storm chances increasing Sunday through Tuesday.

Warnings remain in effect through this evening. Residents are urged to stay weather-aware and check for updates from NWS Pueblo.
