Pueblo, Colorado – Extreme drought conditions persist across portions of south-central Colorado this week, with areas of Saguache, Conejos, and Rio Grande counties among the hardest hit, according to the latest U.S. Drought Monitor released June 12.

According to the National Weather Service in Pueblo, extreme drought (D3) is gripping southeast Mineral County, southwestern Rio Grande County, and western Conejos County. Meanwhile, surrounding regions—including western Saguache and central Conejos—are experiencing severe drought (D2). Much of Lake, Chaffee, and Fremont counties remain in a state of moderate drought (D1), creating ongoing concerns for agriculture, water use, and wildfire danger.

Drivers and outdoor recreationists in the San Luis Valley should remain alert to burn bans, low water levels, and dry soil conditions that could impact camping, hiking, and farming operations. In addition, residents in dry zones are urged to conserve water and avoid activities that could spark wildfires, especially in windy conditions.

The southeast corner of the state, including Las Animas County and parts of Huerfano County, is reporting abnormally dry (D0) to drought-free conditions, offering some relief from broader statewide dryness.
