Borrego Springs, CA – A 3.5-magnitude earthquake struck early Thursday morning, sending tremors through Borrego Springs and surrounding areas in Southern California. The quake hit at 12:39 a.m. PT, roughly 22 kilometers north of Borrego Springs.

The United States Geological Survey (USGS) reported the earthquake’s depth at 9.8 kilometers, which contributed to a moderate shake felt across the region. Several residents reported feeling light to moderate shaking, but there were no immediate reports of damage or injuries. The quake registered as a Level IV on the Community Internet Intensity Map, indicating that people in nearby towns likely felt the tremor.

According to USGS data, Southern California experiences frequent seismic activity, though most tremors are minor. This latest quake serves as a reminder for residents to stay prepared. Experts advise securing heavy furniture, creating an emergency plan, and maintaining a disaster kit.

Residents can contribute to USGS’s citizen science initiative by submitting their quake experiences through the “Did You Feel It?” report.
