Detroit, MI – A powerful winter storm is bringing heavy snow and ice to southeast Michigan, with up to 8 inches of accumulation expected in some areas. A Winter Storm Warning remains in effect for Huron, Macomb, Sanilac, St. Clair, Lapeer, and Tuscola Counties until 7 AM Thursday.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) Detroit/Pontiac, snow will intensify Wednesday afternoon and continue into early Thursday. The heaviest snowfall is expected between 4 PM and 2 AM, with peak rates exceeding 1 inch per hour in some locations. A light glaze of ice is also possible, creating hazardous road conditions.

The storm will significantly impact Wednesday evening and Thursday morning commutes, making travel difficult. Officials urge residents to avoid unnecessary travel and prepare for possible delays. If travel is unavoidable, drivers should carry an emergency kit with a flashlight, food, and water.

The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) is monitoring road conditions, and updates can be found on the Michigan Drive Map. Residents are encouraged to check local forecasts and plan accordingly as the storm progresses.
