CHEYENNE, WY – Southeast Wyoming is facing significant winter weather this Sunday, with the National Weather Service (NWS) issuing a Winter Weather Advisory for the Snowy and Sierra Madre mountain ranges and the I-80 Summit between Cheyenne and Laramie. Snow accumulation could reach up to 10 inches in the higher elevations, while the I-80 Summit could see 3 to 5 inches. Winds are expected to gust between 20 and 25 mph, leading to blowing snow and poor visibility on the roads.
According to the NWS, the advisory is in effect from 12 a.m. Sunday to 6 p.m. Monday, impacting both travelers and locals. Motorists along I-80 should be cautious of slippery conditions and reduced visibility, especially on higher-altitude stretches. Those planning to travel through the area are advised to delay trips if possible and monitor local updates for real-time road conditions.
Sunday’s forecast includes a 30% chance of rain and snow early in the day, transitioning to snow by the evening as temperatures drop, with lows around 26 degrees Fahrenheit. Conditions are likely to be blustery overnight, with gusts up to 35 mph expected, making travel challenging.
For the rest of the week, temperatures will range from the high 40s on Tuesday to near-freezing on Wednesday, with more snow likely by mid-week. Breezy conditions will persist through Monday and Tuesday, followed by a sharp drop in temperatures, reaching single digits on Thursday night.
