Houston, TX – The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a Tornado Watch for portions of East and Southeast Texas, effective Monday afternoon through 8 p.m. Scattered thunderstorms capable of intensifying into supercells are expected, with the possibility of tornadoes and damaging wind gusts of up to 65 mph.

According to the NWS Storm Prediction Center, areas within 60 miles east and west of a line from 45 miles north of Natchitoches, Louisiana, to 90 miles southwest of Fort Polk, Louisiana, are under the watch. Residents are advised to remain vigilant, monitor weather conditions, and be prepared to take shelter should a tornado warning be issued.

In addition to tornado risks, severe storms could cause extreme turbulence and wind conditions, impacting local aviation. The strongest storm activity is likely to occur during the late afternoon and early evening hours.

Precautionary measures include securing outdoor objects, staying informed through local broadcasts, and having a safety plan in place. A Tornado Watch means conditions are favorable for tornadoes, and individuals should be prepared for potentially life-threatening weather.
