Lake Charles, La. –  Heat index values nearing 105°F and daily rounds of thunderstorms are expected across southeast Texas and southwest Louisiana through Tuesday, creating hazardous conditions for outdoor activity and afternoon travel.

According to the National Weather Service in Lake Charles, an upper-level ridge over the region is fueling a hot and humid stretch, with temperatures ranging from 90 to 97°F and heat index values peaking above 100°F daily. Scattered thunderstorms are likely each afternoon from Friday through Tuesday, with rainfall totals up to 2 inches possible, especially near New Iberia and Lafayette.

Localized flooding and lightning could impact weekend plans along I-10, particularly near Crowley, Opelousas, and Lake Charles where storm chances exceed 60% on Sunday. The highest rainfall totals—1.5 to 2 inches—are forecast near New Iberia, with lower but still significant amounts elsewhere.

Minor to moderate heat risk covers much of the area, with outdoor workers, children, and vulnerable populations urged to take precautions. Drink fluids regularly, limit strenuous activities, and never leave children or pets unattended in vehicles.

Storms will primarily develop between 2–6 p.m. daily. Thunderstorm risks may linger into early evening, especially near Lafayette and Lake Charles.
