Houston, TX – A warming trend begins today in Southeast Texas, bringing dangerous beach and marine conditions. Beachgoers and residents near the coast are warned of high rip currents and minor coastal flooding. As temperatures rise, hazardous conditions will persist through Saturday, impacting Gulf-facing beaches and marine areas.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS) Houston-Galveston, rip currents will be strongest near jetties and piers, with dangerous swimming conditions. Coastal flooding is also possible during high tides, particularly in areas like Galveston and Eagle Point. The NWS has issued a Small Craft Advisory, in effect from this evening through Saturday afternoon, as gusty east winds of up to 25 knots and seas as high as 8 feet are expected. Mariners are advised to avoid these conditions.
Today, temperatures across the region will reach the low to mid-80s, with partly cloudy skies and breezy conditions along the coast. Residents should remain cautious of rising water levels, particularly along low-lying roadways, and avoid swimming in areas without lifeguards. Those using small boats should heed the advisory to avoid rough seas.
Looking ahead, Saturday brings more sunny skies and warm temperatures, with highs around 81°F. Conditions will gradually improve by Sunday, with lighter winds and clearer skies. The forecast for Monday remains sunny with temperatures climbing into the mid-80s, offering some relief from the gusty winds and rough waters expected over the weekend.
