Tulsa, OK — Much-needed rain is expected across southeast Oklahoma and western Arkansas through the weekend, with severe weather threats building by Saturday and Sunday.

According to the National Weather Service Tulsa, storm chances will increase significantly Saturday, peaking Sunday, particularly along and east of a dryline stretching across eastern Oklahoma and into Arkansas. Forecast models highlight Fort Smith, Fayetteville, McAlester, and Tahlequah as areas with the greatest rain probabilities—ranging from 50% to 90% through Sunday night.

The weather service warned that strong to severe thunderstorms may bring large hail, damaging winds, and even isolated tornadoes. While forecast uncertainty remains around the exact track and timing of the storm system, residents are urged to monitor updates frequently.

Rainfall could help ease ongoing fire weather concerns in the region, where dry conditions have persisted for weeks. However, the rapid evolution of the storm system means timing could shift, potentially affecting eastern Oklahoma and Arkansas earlier than expected.

Residents should prepare for potential power outages, hazardous driving conditions, and outdoor event disruptions. Emergency kits, weather alerts, and safe shelter plans are highly recommended for those in the impacted zones.

Storm risks are expected to last through late Sunday, with clearing conditions by early next week.
