Detroit, MI – Southeast Michigan residents should prepare for colder weather and possible snow showers heading into Thanksgiving and the weekend. While today will remain mostly dry, light rain and snow showers may develop Thursday night, particularly south of I-94.
According to the National Weather Service, there is a 20-30% chance of precipitation Thursday evening into Friday morning, though no significant snow accumulation is expected. Temperatures will drop to a low of 29°F Thursday night, increasing the chance of icy roads for holiday travelers. Motorists are urged to drive cautiously, especially in areas prone to lake-effect snow.
Thanksgiving Day will see mostly sunny skies with a high of 42°F. However, gusty westerly winds will bring a wintry chill Friday, with daytime highs struggling to reach 35°F. Periodic lake-effect snow showers are expected to persist through the weekend, with the coldest temperatures dipping to 21°F Friday night.
Holiday plans across the region should include warm clothing and travel precautions. Those driving along I-94 and other major highways should remain vigilant for shifting conditions, particularly during overnight hours.
The extended forecast calls for a chance of flurries Saturday and Sunday, with temperatures staying below freezing. By Monday, drier weather and partly sunny skies will return, providing a brief reprieve from the wintry pattern.
Stay tuned for updates on changing conditions and remember to check roadways before heading out.
