Detroit, MI – Southeast Michigan is bracing for the coldest weather of the season next Tuesday, with temperatures expected to drop to -8°F and wind chills plunging to a dangerous -20°F. Residents are being urged to take steps now to prepare for the extreme cold.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS), Tuesday’s high will barely reach the low single digits, while the overnight low is forecast to fall to -8°F. Wind chills throughout the day will remain between -10°F and -20°F, creating hazardous conditions for those exposed to the elements. Frostbite can occur in less than 10 minutes under these conditions.

• Sunday: Partly sunny with a high of 22°F and a low of 10°F.
• Monday (MLK Day): High near 32°F, partly cloudy.
• Tuesday: High near 5°F, low of -8°F. Wind chills -10°F to -20°F.
• Wednesday: High of 14°F, partly sunny with wind chills near zero.
• Thursday: High of 18°F, partly cloudy with milder conditions.
Residents are advised to limit time outdoors, cover all exposed skin, and check on elderly neighbors and pets. Drivers should also prepare for icy road conditions, especially along major roadways such as I-75 and M-59.
