Pineville, KY – A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 6 a.m. Saturday for portions of southeast Kentucky. Snow showers are expected to create hazardous driving conditions, especially in higher elevations.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS), snow accumulations of 1 to 3 inches are anticipated above 1,500 feet, with less than 1 inch likely at lower elevations. Key impacted areas include KY-160 and KY-179 near Black Mountain and US-23 crossing Pine Mountain. Temperatures are expected to drop below freezing in valley areas, increasing the risk of slippery roads and light snow buildup on grassy and elevated surfaces.
Travelers are urged to slow down and exercise caution, particularly on mountain routes. The latest road conditions can be accessed via Kentucky’s official traffic website at https://goky.ky.gov.
Residents should prepare for delays and ensure vehicles are equipped for winter weather. Stay informed about changing conditions as the advisory continues.
