Hazard, KY – A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for portions of southeast Kentucky, with snow beginning as early as 6 a.m. Friday and continuing into early Saturday morning.

According to the National Weather Service in Jackson, the advisory will be in effect from 6 a.m. Friday to 6 a.m. Saturday for Bell, Harlan, Knott, Perry, Leslie, Letcher, and Pike counties. Snow accumulations of 1 to 3 inches are forecast, with the highest amounts expected in areas above 1,500 feet in elevation.

Valleys may initially see rain or melting snow during the day due to temperatures above freezing. However, as temperatures drop Friday evening, light snow accumulations are anticipated in lower elevations, leading to potentially slippery road conditions. The Friday evening commute could be hazardous, especially on untreated roads.

Residents are advised to slow down and plan for extra travel time. Updates on road conditions can be found via GoKY.

Motorists and residents in the affected areas should prepare for travel disruptions and monitor weather developments closely.
