Savannah, GA – Southeastern Georgia residents and beachgoers should remain cautious this Saturday as a moderate rip current risk is in effect along the Savannah coastline. The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued the warning, urging locals and visitors to take precautions, especially near Tybee Island. Rip currents will be a concern through this evening.
According to the NWS Charleston office, the rip current risk started at 8 a.m. Saturday and will remain in effect until late tonight. Rip currents pose a significant danger to swimmers, with strong currents pulling individuals away from shore. Residents and visitors are encouraged to avoid swimming in areas where lifeguards are not present and to listen to weather updates on NOAA Weather Radio or weather.gov.
The weather outlook for the rest of the weekend remains sunny and warm. Sunday’s high will reach 87°F, with light winds from the south. The start of the week promises highs near 88°F through Wednesday, with mostly sunny skies. By Thursday, Savannah can expect more of the same, with temperatures peaking near 84°F.
