San Antonio, Texas – Severe thunderstorms could slam parts of South Texas overnight, with a watch in effect until 2 a.m. Wednesday as storms capable of producing 2-inch hail and 80 mph wind gusts track across the region

According to the National Weather Service in Austin-San Antonio, the watch zone includes Del Rio, Uvalde, Eagle Pass, and Carrizo Springs. Frequent lightning and scattered damaging wind gusts are likely, with isolated large hail threatening structures and vehicles.

Power outages and downed trees are possible, especially in rural areas where emergency response may be delayed. Residents in Maverick, Val Verde, Kinney, and Dimmit counties are urged to secure outdoor items, remain indoors, and avoid travel during active lightning or wind events.

The storm threat could affect up to 154,000 people, including 80 schools and five hospitals in the watch area. Local emergency management teams are on alert for potential flash flooding and damage reports overnight.

The severe thunderstorm watch remains in effect through 2 a.m. CDT Wednesday, with additional watches possible if storms intensify or expand eastward.
