Tallahassee, Fla. – Dangerously high heat continues across the Florida Panhandle, southeast Alabama, and southwest Georgia with temperatures soaring into the upper 90s and low 100s through Wednesday afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service in Tallahassee, a “major” heat risk remains in effect, with highs topping 99°F in Albany, Bainbridge, Dothan, and Valdosta today and tomorrow. A cooldown arrives Wednesday evening as strong to severe thunderstorms move through the region, bringing lightning, damaging wind gusts, and hail.

Cities including Tallahassee, Perry, Marianna, and Panama City should prepare for potential power outages and dangerous afternoon heat. The Slight Risk (Level 2 of 5) for severe weather covers southeast Alabama, southwest Georgia, and the western Panhandle, with a Marginal Risk elsewhere.

Residents are urged to stay indoors during peak heat (1–6 p.m.), hydrate regularly, and check on elderly neighbors and pets. Air conditioning is recommended as fans alone may not be sufficient. Storm prep includes securing outdoor items and monitoring alerts for rapidly changing conditions.

The heatwave eases by Thursday, with highs dropping into the upper 80s to low 90s. Storms may continue into late Wednesday night.
