Miami, Florida – Heavy downpours could flood roads and neighborhoods across South Florida Friday as thunderstorms sweep through the region from late morning into the evening.
According to the National Weather Service in Miami, the highest storm chances—up to 81%—are expected near Lake Okeechobee and along the east coast metro corridor, including West Palm Beach, Boca Raton, and Fort Lauderdale. Storms are forecast to become more widespread by midday and persist through early evening.
Localized flooding is possible in low-lying and poorly drained areas, especially in Glades, Palm Beach, and Broward counties. Wind gusts may also accompany stronger cells, posing risks for downed branches and reduced visibility on I-95, U.S. 27, and other major roadways.
Residents are urged to monitor alerts and avoid driving through flooded streets. If thunder roars, head indoors—lightning remains a risk throughout the region.
Although this pattern is typical of the South Florida wet season, forecasters warn that Friday’s activity could lead to quick accumulations in urban zones. Storm chances are expected to ease slightly over the weekend, but rain remains in the outlook.
⚠️ More scattered storms are expected into the evening. Additional advisories may be issued.
