Miami, Florida – Heavy rain continues to hammer South Florida Tuesday, with flash flooding likely in Miami-Dade and Monroe counties as up to 6 inches of rainfall accumulates by nightfall.
According to the National Weather Service in Miami, a flood watch remains in effect through tonight for areas generally south of I-75, including Miami, Homestead, Naples, and Everglades City. Widespread totals of 1 to 3 inches are expected, with localized areas—especially those already soaked Monday—facing another 3 to 6 inches.
In Homestead and Flamingo, high-end rainfall projections show the potential for totals exceeding 4 to 6 inches. Roads in low-lying neighborhoods may become impassable, and standing water could disrupt commutes during the morning and evening rush. Emergency officials urge drivers to avoid flooded roads with the reminder: “Turn around, don’t drown.”
Storms will persist throughout the day, with the heaviest rounds likely during morning and evening hours. Areas already impacted by 6 to 8 inches of rain yesterday, such as eastern Collier County and parts of Miami-Dade, are especially vulnerable to flash flooding today.
Rain chances remain high into Wednesday. Additional alerts may be issued if rainfall intensifies overnight.
