Sioux Falls, South Dakota – Scattered storms and patchy fog could slow commutes across eastern South Dakota through early Wednesday, with small hail and gusty winds possible during Tuesday afternoon and evening.

According to the National Weather Service in Sioux Falls, isolated showers and thunderstorms will continue off and on through Wednesday morning, with a 50% chance of rain and early morning fog potentially affecting visibility. While the risk for severe weather remains low, forecasters warn of pockets of hail and wind gusts during today’s peak storm hours.

Cities including Brookings, Yankton, and Mitchell may see brief periods of reduced visibility and wet roads through Wednesday morning. Drivers are urged to allow extra time during early commutes and remain alert for changing conditions. Overnight lows will dip into the mid-40s, with daytime highs ranging from 65–70°F on Wednesday.

Conditions are expected to dry out and warm up beginning Thursday, with sunny skies and highs in the low 80s by Friday. No major weather threats are expected through the weekend.

Fog and storm advisories remain in place through Wednesday morning. The National Weather Service will issue further updates as conditions evolve.
