Sioux Falls, South Dakota – A risk of isolated severe thunderstorms could impact parts of eastern South Dakota Saturday afternoon and evening, with the highest concern centered north of Huron in Beadle County.

According to the National Weather Service in Sioux Falls, a Level 1 out of 5 threat is in place for areas including Aberdeen, Redfield, Gettysburg, and Eureka. The primary threats are large hail and damaging winds. Storms are expected to develop in the afternoon and persist into the evening hours.

The risk zone stretches from Mobridge southeast through Brown, Spink, and Faulk counties, potentially affecting Highway 281 and surrounding rural areas. While this is currently a marginal threat, the NWS warns that the storm risk area may shift with updated forecasts.

Residents in the impacted areas should secure outdoor items, monitor weather alerts, and avoid unnecessary travel if storms develop. Those with weekend plans should have a backup indoor option.

More updates are expected as the weekend nears. Weather alerts remain in effect, and changes to the threat area are possible through Friday night.
