Sioux Falls, SD — A warm start to December continues this weekend with highs near 56 today. However, elevated wildfire risk and strong winds Monday could disrupt the calm before snow chances return by midweek.

According to the National Weather Service, southwesterly winds between 10 to 20 mph today will create dry conditions, raising wildfire risks this afternoon. Sunday will remain mild with highs around 51 degrees, but cooler temperatures begin Monday, accompanied by gusts up to 50 mph. Residents should secure outdoor items ahead of the windstorm and remain vigilant for any fire warnings.

By Tuesday, high temperatures will drop to 28 degrees with snow flurries likely. Wind chills could make it feel even colder. The midweek forecast warns of overnight lows falling to 10 degrees Tuesday night and only reaching 21 degrees Wednesday. Motorists should plan for possible slick roads Tuesday evening.

The extended outlook shows a return to partly sunny skies by Thursday, but high temperatures will remain below freezing at 29 degrees. Colder-than-average December weather looks to dominate the rest of the week.

Residents are encouraged to prepare for changing conditions by staying updated through the National Weather Service and local news outlets. Keep an eye on outdoor activities this weekend and be ready for a rapid temperature drop by Tuesday.
