Sioux Falls, SD – Travelers across eastern South Dakota should prepare for challenging conditions as a wind advisory is in effect through Wednesday. Forecasts call for sustained winds of 25 to 35 mph, with gusts reaching up to 50 mph, impacting portions of I-90 and I-29. Light snow is also expected in northern areas, which may reduce visibility and cause slick roads.
According to the National Weather Service, the advisory remains active from 7 a.m. Tuesday through 6 p.m. Wednesday. Combined with light snow near the I-90 corridor, gusty winds could result in drifting snow and minor travel delays. Officials recommend securing outdoor objects and using extra caution when driving high-profile vehicles.
Wednesday’s high is expected to reach 34°F, with temperatures dropping to 23°F overnight. Gusts will remain strong into the evening, accompanied by partly cloudy skies. Breezy conditions will ease Thursday, bringing sunny skies and a high near 37°F.
Looking ahead, Friday and Saturday offer mostly clear weather with highs in the mid-30s, though overnight lows will dip into the low 20s.
Drivers are urged to monitor conditions closely, especially in areas north of I-90 where visibility reductions are likely. For updated forecasts and road conditions, visit local weather resources or the South Dakota Department of Transportation website.
